Nurturing the love for nature
State level Vacation Training camp, 2017 supported by Kerala State Council for Science & Technology, (KSCSTE) Thiruvanathapuram for students awaiting their X class results was conducted. The fifteen day residential camp was instigated on 12th May 2017 and concluded on 26th May 2017. The centre welcomed 29 cheerful and energetic students from various schools in different parts of Kerala.
The camp’s aim to inculcate the interest of young students in science & technology, to popularize science, and to focus on topics related to environmental conservation was achieved successfully. The students selected for the camp had a multi dimensional curriculum that included class room lectures, interaction with various scientists, experts from the field related to environment & conservation activities and farmers. They also had the opportunity for project work, field and exposure visits to various research institutes.
The valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr. S Pradeep Kumar (Member Secretary, KSCSTE) who pointed out that the climate change issues can be curtailed and the carbon foot print could be successfully reduced by the action of students. He also added that the role of students is significant in abridging the distance between science and society.
Manjunath a student who attended the camp shared his experience in the valedictory function where he mentioned that the fifteen day camp was unforgettable and they realized how important biodiversity was, the depth of the ill effect that can cause if the same was destroyed as well as the importance to conserve mother nature.
