As part of 30th Kerala Science Congress, M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation, Wayanad joined hands with Kerala Science Council for Science ,Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) to organize Curtain Raiser Programs in Wayanad district.

The first venue was at St. Mary’s College ,Sulthan Bathery and the other at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University(KVASU), Pookode The Kerala Science Congress is conducted as a three day annual event during the last week of January every year, which provides a forum for interaction and deliberation, review of the present status of R&D efforts and to formulate strategies for better utilization of scientific and technical manpower for the overall development of the State of Kerala. The objective of Kerala Science Congress is to revitalize the Research and Development (R&D) activities in the State and to identify new talents in scientific research in Kerala.

St. Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery:

photo The Curtain Raiser program at St. Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery was held on 9th January 2018. Dr.George Mathew, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, St.Mary’s College,Sulthan Bathery welcomed the gathering. Girigan Gopi, Principal Scientist, MSSRF CAbC presented the introductory remarks on the relevance of conducting science congress every year. Dr. Arjun Prasad, Scientist B, KSCSTE chaired the function. Eliyas, Environmental Activist, Kerala Saasthra Saahithya Parishath had a lecture on “Science and pseudoscience” Dr. Sheba. M. Joseph, Principal, St.Mary’s College, Sulthan Bathery, conveyed the vote of thanks. Active participation of 65 students was visualized.

Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University(KVASU),Pookode:

photo At KVASU, the program was held on 10th January 2018. Dr. Joseph Mathew, The Registrar and Director of Entrepreneurship in charge, KVASU presided over the function. The adverse effects of indiscriminate use of chemicals and fertilizers was informed and he concluded that this platform will elucidate many strategies that can be practiced in full tune by the local farmers. Girigan Gopi, Principal Scientist, MSSRF, CAbC, Wayanad elaborated the objectives and relevance of the science congress and also told that MSSRF is very happy to be a part of such a big science event .Dr. Arjun Prasad, Scientist B, KSCSTE, gave a note on the various activities of KSCSTE. Dr. K.M.Shyam Mohan, Finance Officer, KVASU, Pookode and Dr. N. Ashok, Director of Academics and Research told the felicitation. A session on “Organic farming” was spoken on by Dr. Shelly Mary Koshy, Scientist, MSSRF CAbC, shadowed by an interactive session.
