Carbon neutrality itself should emerge as a new brand for Wayanad Coffee in the market : Dr. Thomas Issac
A forum on framing the action plan for “Carbon Neutral Wayanad” inaugurated by Dr.T.M.Thomas Issac, Minister of finance, Government of Kerala was catalogued on 29th October 2017 at MSSRF CAbC campus, Wayanad, Kerala. Dr. N.Anil Kumar, Senior Director, MSSRF welcomed the gathering. The context of earlier discussions was summoned by Shri. Ajith Mathai, mbyom. Sequentially, a panel discussion on developing market value chain for Wayanad shade coffee -problems and prospects was evaluated.
Carbon neutrality in Wayanad could be made possible only by the scientific intervention and implementation of methodologies which includes afforestration of indigenous trees species which are proven to be the helpful in carbon sequestration in shade coffee ecosystem in particular, which would thereby help in conserving and improving the natural biodiversity of the ecosystem. Carbon neutrality itself should emerge as a new brand for Wayanad Coffee in the market said Issac.
Now the farmers were getting low prices for the produce, but the branding of the produce would help the community to fetch high price in the market, Dr. Isaac said.
